I hope everyone had a great festive season and is looking forward to the new year.
Keep Your Chickens Cool
Now that the summer is upon us its time to remember to keep your chickens cool.
Adequate cold water in the pens will keep the girls (and roos) all happy and hydrated.
Of course remember to make sure the water is kept in the shade at all times.
Sustainable Living
I have recently purchased a solar power system to be installed on my house!  I was surprised to find out that I only needed the smallest sized system available, and there are some great specials on at this time of year.
If you would like to work out what size solar power system you need, check your electricity bill for your daily usage.  My usage was 12 units, eg. requires a 1.2 kilowatt system. (Smallest avaiable is 1.5kw) 
I am looking forward to greatly reduced power bills, I am told my bills should be reduced by at least two thirds of what they are now.  In that case the system will pay for itself within 12 months.  The total cost for the system was around $1200.
So if you have been considering the installation of solar power, now would be a good time to look at it seriously.
Old Ads on Chooknet
There have been many requested for old ads to be deleted after a certain time.
So I have now deleted all of the old ads placed prior to 1st October 2011 and I will set the ads to auto-expire after 120 days.
If you think this time period is too long please leave your feedback on the forum, where I have posted a message.

Its great to see so many new members saying hello and introducing themselves on the forum.  If you have recently joined Chooknet please dont be afraid to post a message on the forum to introduce yourself, and tell us about your chickens.
